You told me 
I didn’t listen
I went on
my way 

Why didn’t I listen
to
your kind words 
soft and loud
telling
of things needed
to be
addressed
not allowed 

But I didn’t listen
I didn’t say anything
to
stop the sadness
settle the anger
or
quell the foray 

No, I did nothing
nothing like that
today.
