It doesn’t come easy
it’s
very hard
Keeping my mouth quiet
taking care
not to say anything
hurtful
demeaning
not
too hard
This is my quandary
this is
my mission
no matter my apprehension
But
still
still it’s very
very hard.

Tell me more
let me see
the beauty, the majesty
all around
and
inside
of
you
inside me.

May
all goodness
come to my life
May
it live within me
my entire life
never gone
til
my last breath’s fight
May
all goodness
exist
wherever life takes
my life.

How much can you take?
How much can you stand?
Where will it end?
Is there
no conscience
no
equality
no line in the sand?
The world awaits your decision
the world hopes your eyes
are
not blinded
by
lies told
again and again.
Hopefully
we’ll stand
together
support one another
as
friends can
When lies
brutality
rise their ugly heads
once more, once again.

I haven’t been
As close as I should have been
It seems life has dealt me
a heavy load
A load I think I need to carry.
Please, if you could
Let me see where
I can lay down
All that isn’t necessary.
Giving me
The time, the space
To be the one
You need, I need to be
For an blessed eternity.

Take away the sad
the lonely
take them far away
replaced
with
kindness and happiness
Breathe deeply
breathe a long deep breath
For you
see
you are all
that’s needed
to
make your life
the best.

Hold me close
let me not see
the anger
all
the wretched happenings
Let me feel
safe
secure in your hold
let me not pass on
any nastiness
or
behold
I ask you
of
this
you so brave
and
so bold
Hold me close
tell me stories of success
generosity
and
kindness
all about to unfold.

Can I be
be the one
I need to be?
Can I be?
No one
answered
no one seemed to see
Then I heard
a quiet voice
say
Yes
you can
you can be.

The crash
on
the rocks
the mounting sea
nothing
nothing is as beautiful
as
thee.

Do I know you
Have you been
My friend?
Will I know that in times of trouble
I can count on you
Once more, once again?
Questions, answers
I say, ask
Over and over again
Still
I don’t know for certain
You really are
My friend.
