Fingers trudge
across the page
feeling
the paper’s texture
smooth
hardly any grain.
Will the pen
fill the lines
printed
on this page
or
will it be vacant
unused
crumpled
thrown away?
Fingers hesitate
and then
pick up trusty pen
and say
words that fill this page
with all they want
need
to say.

I don’t have to write anything
Nor do I need to say
Kind or bitter words
I don’t have to do anything
Today.
Maybe tomorrow
In that different day
Things will be different
They’ll change from
What I do today.
But tomorrow
I’ll deal with it on that day
Because I don’t have to
Do anything, anything
Today.
