So Deep

I’ve fallen down
a cavern
so deep

My heart is swallowed up
by something
that
creeps

My eyes see only darkness
black
dense
so deep

My feet stumble
over rocks large
sharp
cutting me
so deep

Will I find my way out?

Will I once again
feel the sun’s rays
enveloping me
warming
me
making me know
I’m loved?

Yes
oh
so deep.

No One Told

No one told, no one said
the secrets hidden deep
beneath my childhood bed.

Monsters and thoughts
so deep
didn’t make sense
to a little child trying to sleep.

Only my mother and father
could keep
those things below
my mattress and my sheets.

Letting me just spend the night
counting sheep.
