Each morning now I greet a face
A stranger, I don’t remember
Back in time or space
An older woman surprises me in the mirror
Each morning, when
I wash her face.
When did she get here?
When did she arrive?
When did she replace that young girl?
Who greeted me in the mirror
As I
Washed her face.
Glad she’s here
Glad she survived and got thru
All the world put on her plate
When I think about it
I’m glad she took that young girl’s place
The one who used to
Wash my face.

The easy way out.
Duck the clout and measure
The distance to get out.
Don’t hesitate and ponder
What it’s all about.
Just duck
Duck and get out.
The reasons are many
The answers few
Don’t worry what’s right
Worry about you.
Survive another day
Cause it’s all about you
That’s what it’s about.
Take the easy way out.

I forgot
What day this was
I forget if a saddened sun shone
I forget what I had for lunch.
But
I didn’t forget the thousands that did die
I didn’t forget those that did get out alive
I haven’t forgot you helped those survive.
I can not forget the clouds of smoke
Rising ash, people stunned, sirens wailing
Unholy hell reigning
It seemed to last I have not forgot.
I can not forget
A silence as planes flew into concrete
Smashing trust, crushing hopes
This I won’t and have not forgot.

Drip, drip of falling rain
Settles deep down the drain.
Is my life like that rain?
Have I flushed myself away?
Can I grasp strands of grace, gratitude
Interspersed with love
Pulling up myself to stay
in a world not only to survive
But live a life
Where I don’t want to die.

Delving deep within
Holds so many sins
Scary thoughts prevail
Hesitation stops
And bars the door.
Enough
Enough no more!
Will I survive?
Will I make it
To the other side?
Not mine to decide.
Just got to go and ride
Ride the mighty thoughts
To a spot where I can get off
And walk away
A stronger one today
A whole lot better
Than yesterday.
Yes, delving deep within
Can hold oh so many sins
But something I need to do
I need to do today
Without anymore delay.
