Before You Went Away

You didn’t tell me
You didn’t say
Those words I needed to hear
Before
Before you went away.

Silence is all I hear
Silence
Fills the hour, the day.

I’d hoped
To hear you speak
I’d hoped
You’d say
Soft, loving words to me
Before you left
Before you went away
