It started in my head
It grew in my heart
My pen let it out
That painting, that writing
That perfect piece of art.
It’s voice did cry
‘Bring me out to the world
Not living just in your head’
I heard those words from
That perfect piece of art.
Begged to be seen
Begged to be read
That idea, that writing
That perfect piece of art.
Now the world can see
What my pen brought out
That lived in my head
Grew in my heart
That painting, that writing
That perfect piece of art.

It fell from the sky
Crashed to the earth
A spaceship from somewhere
Maybe the past
Resting now
In a soft bank of snow.
Who knows who they are?
Where they’ve been
And where they’re yet to go
Now impaled
Stuck in the snow.
Will they go in reverse
Back to the sky
Disappearing from earth
In the dark of the night?
Going forth to the future
In a blaze of hot light?
Then again
They could melt into the snow
Part of the crowd, no one to know
Not born or raised here on earth
But from a place we don’t know.
There are those who’ll say
“It’s an icicle deep in the snow
Fell from the eavestrough
Succumbed to gravity’s pull”.
As for me, I just don’t know.

Drifting slowly down
The last of winter softly hits the ground
Melted in an instant, turning to a rain
Flowing quickly, pouring down the drain
Now just melancholy remembrances
Of a winter almost gone.
Spring emerges, quickly coming on
Banks of snow melting, feeding
Turning to green grasses that grow
In the warm summer sun that gives strength
To all the little baby ones.
Then the cycle turns again, falling onto fall
That is when we come face to face
With the coming cold winter snow
As we see the seasons change
In a ever changing show.

Sky is bright
Clouds float by
Problems few in the bye and bye.
Deep breath bring in
Filled with joy I grin
Nothing can make me cry.
Nothing bad can be
As I relax and see
Bright clouds floating high above me.

This morning I’m struggling
Unsure, crushing blur
Can’t see around the bend
Can’t see free or happy.
Looking, trying to see
Be the good in this my journey
But this morning
It evades me.
Only feel failure, sadness
Struggling, struggling
Just don’t know
What or where I should go.
A lot have it worst I know
Makes me feel guilty
For I know I’m blessed
Have so much, so many opportunities
Yet this morning I struggle
I’m struggling.

Searching, reaching
For something of the best.
Finding, finding
Maybe then I can rest.
Tired, tired of searching
Reaching for the best.
Even so I will continue
Cause if I stop, I’m sure
They’ll lay me to rest.

Brave and Courageous
They stood on a hill
All together
They stepped forth with one will.
One assembled cars
While two tended farms
And another nursed the ill.
Honest and caring ruckus until
Obligation carried them on paths diverse
I remember still.
Their lives unsurpassed
In honesty, loving and caring
Working shoulder to shoulder
With family, friends and foe.
They may have passed
A long, long time ago
But I feel them still standing
Beside me here
On that same hill.

Must be close to spring
For squirrels are making out
On the deck railing.
Must be close to spring
For deer are eating
Sprigs of exposed grass
Instead of bark and things.
Must be close to spring
For redwing blackbirds sing
A lovely song of spring.
Must be close I’m hoping
To that wondrous season
Spring.

Today is a sad day for me
Today was the day I knew in my heart
My mom was dying.
Nothing, nothing I could do
Or say would stop it
This I knew in my heart
But not my head.
Anguish, fear, frightened
Looking for the answer
That would save her
Keep her here with me
Sadly, not to be.
Not once did I think
That maybe she had had enough
And wished to go
Oh no.
When I look back on this day
I see it was all about me
My feelings, my hurt
My need to have her here with me.
I said Goodbye that day
While deep inside, my heart knew
My head refused
Believing we’d have more, more happy days.
That inner voice, my heart
It knew
It knows the future and has lived the past.
She passed
She passed the next day
My mom, she passed away.
