Cursed Snow

February 11, 2020

Winter Road ~ Photo by Patrice

Cursed snow falls
Blanketing life with a dirty white
Melting in spring revealing
No more than everything
Cursed snow.

Cursed snow blows
Filling all nooks and crannies
Whistling round corners
Blowing white, blowing blind
Cursed snow.

Oh My Heart, My Heart

February 10, 2020

Trashed Feeder ~ Photo by Patrice

When the world fell apart
I was filled with despair
Crying
Oh my heart, my heart
No other saw or moved
To employ saving grace
All was destroyed
Oh my heart, my heart.

Then the sun shone
The rains came
My heart heard
A sweet, sweet refrain
Crowds rejoiced, laughed
Coming close to heaven
And my heart sang
Oh my heart, my heart
Once again.

The Caged Bird

February 7, 2020

The Caged Bird ~ Photo by Patrice

The caged bird flies
Deep into brilliant
Blue, blue skies.

The caged bird cries
Songs of lilting love
Her sweet voice sings
Of beauty, freedom
All things.

The caged bird dies
In the midst of bars holding
Holding her in.

No soaring in blue skies
Nor lilting love songs sung
For this was only a dream
Dreamt in
A dark night long.

See My Heart Soar

February 6, 2020

Palm Tree in Blue Sky ~ Photo by Patrice

See my heart soar
Far up in the sky
Where no one else
Can pull me down.

Nor turn my world
From up
To crashing down.

See my heart soar
See it fly
In a bright blue
Cerulean sky.

When You Pretend

February 5, 2020

Mal pups ~ Illustration by Patrice

When you pretend
and nothing happens
are you wrong
or should you extend
the playacting
til
all comes to be
the way you originally
pretended it to be.

Being Sensible

February 3, 2020

Rosie ~ Photo by Patrice

Being sensible
is sometimes a gift

no heartfelt intuition
can make the necessary shift

relying on the ego
memorizing the words
doesn’t help

for being sensible
just sometimes
is a gift.

In The Dusky River Silence Flows

January 31, 2020

Crossing at Nanticoke Creek ~ Photo by Patrice

In the dusky river silence flows
Flowers shimmer along the shoals
No one knows which way it goes
Only those that climb upon the shore
Reach for heaven and nothing more.

The deer, the doe drink their fill
Watching always for threats and still
They move with poise
Knowing others come, living life
Wherever the dusky, silent river flows.

Hold Your Horses

January 30, 2020

Rocking Horse ~ Photo by Patrice

Hold your horses
Be at peace
Let the world pass by
One hour at a time
No rush
No strong words
Do you speak.

Memories Last

January 29, 2020

Sunning Spike ~ Watercolour by Patrice

Memories last
to give us space to remember
those gone from this place.

Holding close, holding long
remembering all the snuggles, caresses
Thru the night so long.

Heartache cries missing those loved
now my heart’s alone
a empty place.

I can’t, won’t forget
your loving soul’s a memory
all that I have left.

I Won’t Say Those Words

January 28, 2020

Costa Rican View ~ Photo by Patrice

I won’t say those words
That may save the day
Not because I don’t want to
No
Because I don’t need to
For salvation is on its way.

It’ll be here,
Sometime
Sometime today.
