You can
tell me anything
you want
you can put me
on the spot
You cannot
let me say a word
for
you have
the upper hand
You have
what I have not.

On Fridays, I usually look back two years and revisit something I wrote during this same month. I call it ‘Look Back Friday’
Today, the piece I want to share is a poem I originally wrote for Remembrance Day in November 2018, and first brought back again in 2022. Now, I feel compelled to bring it forward once more and share it with you. . .

I heard the wild goose call
I heard her plaintive tone.
I bowed my head in honour
Of all those left
Left alone.
On the field of war and anger
In the battle
No one wins alone.
I heard the wild goose call
Come
Come bring your brave soldiers home.

Colouring well
staying within the lines
not deviating
not
causing anything
that could be considered
a crime
Maybe tomorrow
or
the day after that
I’ll scratch across the table
colouring
everything black
Always
outside the lines
asking
whatever could be
up
with that?

I am grateful
for the love
I feel
today, tonight
It’ll guide me
through
all heartache
strife
My heart, my head
my hands
my feet
all moved together
with that
an universal beat
All
are grateful
for
this love
Placed
in
our heart
that
makes it move
with such
a lovely
lovely beat.

The world turns
and
it cries
the Blue Jays
lost
by one
in overtime
They fought
their way
thru all the games
playing
strong
playing as one
all
the same
Win
with brilliance
lose
no shame
they made it thru
to
the seventh
the last
game
Hit with pitches
fly balls
caught
they battled
to
the end
when
to the Dodgers
they lost
But
In my heart
in
my mind
you are
Number One
no matter
if
the score card
shows
a loss
You played
with valour
power
and
strength
you are my hero
you are
the Best
darn baseball players
in
all the Game!
