The sun shines
No matter
The time of day.

That sun from far
To my day, my walk

Remember when a laugh and smile
Were the only thing that made
The day’s itinerary song?
Remember when laughter
And carefree days lasted
All year long
The thought of winter didn’t
Come to mind
Didn’t come along.
Then there was when
A door opened up
And seriousness came along.
No smiles, no laughter
The whole day long
Winter winds blew
And the heart was frozen
In sadness
Crying was the only song.

Looking forward, looking back
Living in the present
Trying to keep on track.
No breath is taken lightly
No heartache will
Keep me back.
Living on the precipice
Yet staying on
That beaten path.

Nor to the side

Forward is the way
To go
Bringing with me
Those I love
And most of all
I need.

I wonder, wonder where
The squirrel at the feeder
Came from.
Where the sun was before
It shone in the sky.
When people thought
That they may fly.
What was said when
The mountains fell.
As a earthquake opened up
And shattered the ground.
I wonder, wonder where
The answers can be found.

Other feeling
Neither
Happiness
Nor
Dread
Can accommodate
Like this

My sleepy
Morning head.

The problems I had
Answers
That evaded me
In retrospect
I could have
Done things
Differently
In retrospect
I know my life
Could have been
Changed drastically
But
In retrospect
Then I would not be
The person I’ve become
I need to be
