their melancholy sound

mountains all around
Sending messages, greetings
and words of sadness
so profound

listen to their sound.

Rain leaks
into small spaces
it’s refreshing water
drips
drops
Onto parched lips
it’s taste
not
forgot
Growing strong
pouring down
windswept landscapes
feel
as if they’ve been
drowned
Then with a quiet stop
all you hear
is
drip
drop.

I didn’t listen
I went on
my way
Why didn’t I listen
to
your kind words
soft and loud
telling
of things needed
to be
addressed
not allowed
But I didn’t listen
I didn’t say anything
to
stop the sadness
settle the anger
or
quell the foray
No, I did nothing
nothing like that
today.

this

A home is a home
no matter the width, the size
treasured forever
lived in from birth
to the time you die.
Feel the gentle breathing
of timbers and frame
holding strong
in winter winds, torrential rains.
All are welcomed
with love, no despair
come
step into this home.
There you’ll share
laughs, great food
and
a glass of sweet cheer.

regardless
whether a tree, a river
a squirrel

a person so sublime.

the future
what’s to be
for you, for me.
Tomorrow we’ll know
what
the day has been
but
first we have to
live it
to know, to have seen.

A hummingbird came to my window
today
not seen since
in the fall
when they all
flew away.
Sweet nectar she’s looking for
needs right away
hovering, looking in
she tells me.
Get it ready!
Get it ready!

The little hummingbird
is
hungry
she’s flown such a distance
from far
far away.
Now needs
some sweet substance
til
all the blooms
are
on display.
A hummingbird came to my window
and
told me all this
just this morning
just today.

I don’t write
I clear my head
of
the thoughts
swirling round
coming from those
that
are dead.
They need to say
to
ones alive
“I love you
I’ll help you through life
you will survive”
Sometimes
they’re kind
sometimes they’re sweet
sometimes though
they say
what needs to be said
to help
loved ones
get back up
on
their feet.
I thank them
for
coming
I appreciate they do
cause I too benefit
from
their words
that may be written
just for you.

trees sway
on the wind
howling
through the quiet basin
Silent they are
but
not forbidden
to feel
