Everything is quiet
Everything is nice
But
Everything is not ok
Everything can’t be nice
Hold the past in your arms
Embrace the future
With unprecedented charm
Then
Everything is ok
Everything is without harm
Live the present
Moving thru the past
Holding the future in a grip
That will forever last
Yes
Everything is quiet
Everything can last.

Sadness lingers giving a sad taste
Mental anguish holds memories in
Sadness’s wake.
This too will pass in future’s time
Overshadowed
By weeping and sad crying.
For now I hold my sadness near
All that’s left
Of one life so dear.

Hearing the world turn
Is
A wondrous thing.
The magic of the morning
The breath of spring
Calling forth summer and all that it brings.
Fall’s bounty feeding
Getting ready for the cold of winter
Snowflakes hiding everything.
My breath goes in and out
Taking in all these things
That are about.

Stay for the day
Don’t wander, falter in anyway
Sacrifice your heartache
Throw out those that naysay
Stay in the hour
In the moment
Every second, everyday
For all time
Today.

Hummingbird safe on your journey be
Many pleasures I’ve had watching ye
Time has come and I must let it be
Trust your flight south is a safe journey
In the cool fall light you make yourself ready
Ready for that long flight
Flower to flower do you fly
Sharing pollen, drinking til dry
Maybe next summer I’ll see you again
Humming beneath flowering stems
Drinking sweet nectar alongside some bees
Enjoying the warmth and raising a family
Right now though, all I see is a hummingbird
Getting ready for that phenomenal journey
Wishing you safe, wishing you well
Make it there and please, come back as well.
~ Patrice
Note: As I finished writing this poem and rereading it out loud out on our deck, a hummingbird came up so close i could feel the air movement from her wings on the side of my head. She hovered a few seconds then flew away. I have not seen a hummingbird since. Amazing. I like to think she said goodbye too.

When I think of Terry Fox
I think a lot
Of the good he did
He did a lot.
Not thinking of himself
He made it happen
Help for others
He helped a lot.
He ran
Terry Fox ran
He ran for those
Who could not.

My heart aches
For the girl I use to be
Finding it hard accepting
This woman I am to be.
I was innocent then
Accepting and carefree.
What happened
To that girl?
Where could she be?
Life took a toll
Leaving her as you see.
Must accept this woman
Must be pleased
And certainly see
a beautiful person too
Just not as carefree.
Happy yes, more so now
Than ever could be.
So love this woman
Because she is me.

Whatever happens maybe extreme
It doesn’t mean
I have to accept it or labour beneath it’s screams
Of hurt, anger and unnecessary demeans.

Calm has come
Stopped the siege
No one knows
Nor cares why.
Bow my head
Hear it now
Blending
Softness into song.
To the world
Nothing’s changed
Yet I know nothing
Will be the same.

Definitely
Going to save the day
Definitely
Going to remember it well
Definitely
Going to savour every piece of it
Definitely
Going to live it
And
Definitely
Going to harbour
Its wondrous thoughts as well.
