Sweet water greets those flying from the south
A long time since said goodbye
Now spring beckons them to our house
Heavy, sweet ruffled feathers
Shook out to contain some heat
Refilled from drinking that that’s sweet.
Tiny and big spring flowers bloom
Holding up their coloured petals
To the sun and to the moon
Sweet nectar deep inside
Lavish feast for who knows where it resides
Hovering there in spring.
Welcome back my little summer friends
Who harrow spring and winter’s end
Let summer too be about to begin
Trust your journey was a easy ride
On currents blowing up
On south’s humid tide.
We’ll share the warm summer’s breeze
You’ll drink sweet water
Til leaves begin to fall
Then on currents you’ll fly away
Drinking sweet water on your way
Back to a warm, south southern day.

I saw a hummingbird amongst snowflakes
Shattering life, no respite
Falling into spring cold and shivering
Hovering over brave blooms
As you come to make a summer home
In this land that has no way
To warm and comfort
On this cold spring day.
Fly south I’d say, then wait a day
Before braving storms to come back
To the land you can call
A summer home once more
Yes, I saw a hummingbird
Amongst snowflakes just today.

Bright colours of spring
Have bloomed
Into vibrant summer things.
No world is full
Til summer brings
Harvest of spring’s risings.

The sky is beauty
Flowers be
The most beautiful
Anyone could ever see.
Summers’ come
It’s weaving a warm, soft web
Enveloping all spring’s brought
From winter’s dread.

There I am in my robe
Watching closely as the earth disrobes
All it’s ugly, nasty things
Rising up in beauty
Filled with summer and with spring.
Winter’s cold, bitter hate
Melted here, no distaste
Only warm, fulfilling beams
Creating more lovely dreams.
Bless the ground I stand upon
Know it gives me faith true and strong
Trusting I’ll be here long after
Spring flowers fade and go
But memories of what has been
Or yet to come
Will hold my own sheltering robe so tight
That I know I will be safe
On earth’s soft ground tonight.

For all I know
The world may not be round
It could be full of crowded, crumbly ground
Coming up, breaking down
For all I know.
For all I know
Birds sing to bring joy and happiness
In the chilly, warming spring
For all I know.
For all I know
The squirrel runs, the rabbit plays
Making life an serious, endless game
For all I know.
For all I know
Rain falls to the ground
Spreading life most profound
Asking nothing in return
For all I know.
For all I know
Skin is not skin deep
It lives and breathes
It holds the soul within the body
Until it’s time to go
For all I know. For all I know.

Must be close to spring
For squirrels are making out
On the deck railing.
Must be close to spring
For deer are eating
Sprigs of exposed grass
Instead of bark and things.
Must be close to spring
For redwing blackbirds sing
A lovely song of spring.
Must be close I’m hoping
To that wondrous season
Spring.

Lost in thoughts of blooms in spring
Wishing, hoping soon will be spring
Not sad to let winter go
So glad to be getting pass the cold.
The blooms in spring are what
I’m waiting, wishing for
While here, in the depths
Of frigid, winter cold and snow.
