9/11 Angels

September 11, 2019
A lone firefighter stands amid the rubble, September 2001
A solitary fire fighter stands amidst the rubble and smoke in New York City. Days after a Sep. 11 terrorist attack, fires still burn at the site of the World Trade Center. U.S. Navy Photo by Photographer’s Mate 2nd Class Jim Watson. (RELEASED)

9/11 will be seen
As a time of horror
Heartache
And oh, such bravery
When 9/11 angels were sent to heaven
Too much hate
No saving.

Buildings will dissipate
But lives lost or ruined
Will be remembered
Then, now and for decades
The reason lost on most, everyone
Not known why
Most of all by those who died
Really, not understood by anyone.

Life should not be deemed cheap
All life is sacred, revered
That is my belief
Say a prayer, pray for those
Who lost their lives
And those
Who were the reason.

For if we all can see
We must live together
Work together, love together
In peace and tranquillity
Then it will be ours forever
It will forever
Be.

When Things Calm Down

August 23, 2019

When things calm down and all is quiet
The heart stirs with memories, feelings disquiet.

Hard to conceive what has happened
Hard to believe it is now reality.

Chest heaves, tears fall crying
In a crushing rain no one can believe.

Neither can anyone console
Or take this burdened load from you or me.

Yes, when all things are calm and the world seems quiet
The head, the heart are left feeling painfully disquiet.

I Know You Haven’t Seen

August 19, 2019

Kites in the Sky ~ Photo by Patrice

I know you haven’t seen
The world I see
Know you most likely
Don’t really care.

But to me, it’s everything
It’s my world, my life
My very being
I live it everyday
I wake up wondering
What the universe
Will bring me today.

Will I laugh, will I cry
Or just be silent as I watch
This world come
Take me on a journey
You’ll never see
It’s mine
It belongs only, to me.

I Want

August 12, 2019

Wild Rose ~ Photo by Patrice

I don’t want
To talk about bad things to come
Not about people
Who have succumb to treacherous lives
No weeping
Wailing can disguise.

No, I want
To talk about how my heart soars
My voice roars the beauty of things
And the gentle kindness
A good heart brings.

These,
These are the things
I want to hold
These are the things
I want to be told.

My Brother

August 9, 2019

Miss you still ❤

Patrice's avatarPatrice’s Art & Poetry Blog

My Brother

My brother has passed away
Leaving a hole
A void so deep that stays.

No laugh, no hearing his chuckle
No ‘Huh?’ accompanying
His incredulous, questioning smile.

No feeding the brown or the black cat
All memories now
No more, no more of that.

Now my brother, sleep quiet, sleep sweet
Rest now my brother for evermore
In heavenly peace.

Amazing

July 3, 2019

This Lady

Amazing

How the earth does turn
How it all seems so serene and firm

Amazing

That we don’t fall off
How we can fly high, high in the sky

Amazing

That the oceans deep give us food
Give us nourishing water sweet

Amazing.

I Hear The Howl Of A Lonesome Wind

July 2, 2019

Thunder Clouds ~ Photo by Patrice

I hear the howl
Of a lonesome wind
Winding thru the trees
Branches, limbs.

Leaving all to chance
She sweeps across the land
Blowing with her
Good fortune, losses
But nothing that holds on
That can withstand.

Her mind is elsewhere
A place she came from
Wandering
Whistling she searches
For that time long ago
When she was so young.

A Wall Of Many Trees Stand

June 25, 2019

Mighty Trees Stand ~ Photo by Patrice

A wall of many trees stand
Stand in front of me
There may be a way
Around
Squeezing thru, in-between.

Many trees stand
Protecting me
From what dwells beyond
Unforeseen.

Canopy overtop, shading
Letting only a few rays
Of burning sun thru
To drop.

Taking the impact
Of a lightning strike
Hear the thunder crash
As a mighty tree falls
Out of sight.

Little ones will take its place
Loved
Nurtured by large ones
Standing, guarding, protecting
In this place.

As full circle round
Does nature go
Where many trees stand
Like a wall
All in a row.

Sadness Is A Part Of Me

June 20, 2019

Sadness is a part of me
Loss of one so very dear
To me
Gone a long time ago
But no one told me
I didn’t know.

Her heart was pure
Her soul glowed bright
I can see her smile
Her gentle nature
Such a delight.

In the years
That have passed
We talked little
Distance, time
Seemed to be an
Impasse.

But you were there
I was here
Sharing a love so full
For horses, boxers
And a mate who
Completed, giving all.

Now must accept
Gone to be in heaven
Where with all who
Have gone before
Happily sharing laughter
Memories by the score.

My Face

June 14, 2019

Patrice's avatarPatrice’s Art & Poetry Blog

Mom and Twiggy ~ Photo by Patrice

Each morning now I greet a face
A stranger, I don’t remember
Back in time or space
An older woman surprises me in the mirror
Each morning, when
I wash her face.

When did she get here?
When did she arrive?
When did she replace that young girl?
Who greeted me in the mirror
As I
Washed her face.

Glad she’s here
Glad she survived and got thru
All the world put on her plate
When I think about it
I’m glad she took that young girl’s place
The one who used to
Wash my face.
