I can see the words
They tell me of the time
When hearts were loved
And words all rhymed.
They tell me of the joy
The majesty and triumphant gladness
No casting of badness
No broken bones
Or hearts lost in a world
Filled with madness.
These words they fill the place
With love, beauty, grace
I accept the honour
Bestowed here upon me
Of seeing life with words that
Never conquer
Just for the sake of me.

Why I heard the call
Is news to me
Listening to the answer
Is beyond all that makes
Me me.
Don’t know the reason
Or if it’s part of destiny
Making life an honour
Lived with all my heart
My being.

Tortured thoughts
Ricochet thru my mind
Leaving harrowing things harbouring
Crying
Those that I don’t like to find.
Why have they come?
Why won’t they go?
I need not believe in their anger
Vengeance
I need not tow all this piled up
This awful collection of
Tortured thoughts.

Bending low the master helps
The student rise high
Above the atmosphere
Rising into brilliant skies
Where no restrictions
Can hold him down.
The world is his
He wears it as a crown
Turning now to stoop
So low
To assist another
To this hallowed ground.
He praises those
That got him here
Rendering love
That does abound
Does appear.

Halloween comes creeping
To the door
All withered, stooped asking for
Trick or treat
Maybe something more
Smiling toothless face leering
Into vacant space
Blood dripping onto gruesome cheek
Screeching voices crack the night
Laughing hysterically
No remorse if no treat tonight.
Now fear is my plight
Quickly shove
The treat out the door
Into grasping bags
Til no more
Smiling it seems in pleasant surprise
When in fact I fear I have died
Slam the door
Lock it quick
Make sure there is no trick.
Cut the lights
Curtains drawn
Sit in darken space
Hoping monsters, witches
Will not be back
Nor leave some gruesome trace.
~ Patrice

Patrice’s Art & Poetry Blog
A child watches helplessly
As a hunter shoots her pet crow.
What part of that is Human Kind?
A teen is beaten about the head
Until she falls to the ground.
Kicked until she stands.
It then starts over again.
What part of that is Human Kind?
A young woman pleads
For her dog’s life
A rifle is pointed at her head
And she is told
‘Stop crying or I’ll shoot you too”.
What part of that is Human Kind?
~
Human Kind
Is when a police officer
Could have given a ticket
Towed the truck.
But instead
Leads you out of the dark
From lost back onto the right road.
That is Human Kind.
Human Kind
Is when four young men stop
To give a ride and support
To two young girls
One sobbing, stranded
Somewhere in the mountains
After being kicked out for refusing.
That is Human Kind.
Human Kind
Is…

Wondering what
What
What is wrong
Feeling that
Something
Something is wrong
Hearing in my head
Deny
Deny there is
Nothing
Nothing wrong
Wondering what
What
This feeling is
So strong
So very strong.

Seeing the answer brings
Soft acceptance of everything
No wondering
Or asking anything.
All there in front of me
To embrace or leave behind
It’s nothing.
The answer comes
Bringing with it my heart’s question
About everything.

Sometimes
The snow flies quietly down
Melting before
It touches frozen ground.
No thunder clap
Heralds the falling down
No flash of blazing light
Lets us know.
No roar or rush
Of coming water no
Just snow
Snow quietly falling down.

My thoughts race
I pace the floor
Could it be
Could I possibly
Have more?
My heart is open
It feels good fortune’s
Gentle rays
Come flooding in.
My head spins
My ears roar
My thoughts race
As my jaw drops
Beneath my chin
To the floor.
