May 24th celebration has gone
used to be festivities
All day long.
Nothing, no more celebrating
Can’t understand
How could all this pass?
Used to be dancing, parties, sing-along
Fireworks and baseball
May 24th celebration, all day long.

* Each day this week, I’m going to be posting writings that came to me in the middle of the night after watching a documentary on Janis Joplin. Whether it is Janis writing these words thru me, or my perception of what I watched, I have no idea. Yours to decide and I hope, enjoy.

I was the girl who stood in the back
I was the one who didn’t say any of that
I was the one who laughed and cried
I was the one who breathed the breath
Who stood alone amongst the rest
Never knowing my heart
I think, I guess.

If I could speak and say
To my younger self
The things I know today
I wouldn’t listen to myself
Berate and think I’m not worthy
Of love in anyway.
I’d say beauty doesn’t last
It fades away to something beautiful
Just in another way
What’s important now won’t be
In tomorrow’s day, so let it go
Let it fade away.
I’d tell her she’ll grow old
Live and laugh no matter what
Tragedy may come her way
That all she has to do is just love
Love and live each and everyday.
That’s what I would tell my younger self
If I could speak to her in
Yesterday.

My hearts a mess
There is no rest
No peace, no quiet.
Racing, racing on
Racing fast
How will I ever last?
When can I see
Peace
Quiet and dignity?
When will I feel
My heart pump
A slow, soft, quiet thump?
Can’t hold on
Can’t see
How I got here, how to leave.
All I see is
My hearts a mess
There is no rest, that’s all, all I see.

Our hearts grow old with sadness
You are lost to us in life
Gone to glory in the sky
While your memory lives
Still here in our lives.
May your journey be a lustre
A brilliance in the sky
May your star shine forever
illuminating all those
Who now cry.

Love is never lost
Only left behind or put in a place
Where it can’t grow.
Sow love seeds so dear
Nurture, care
Watch love grow.
No needy nor neglect
Let love grow in your heart
Don’t let it be, ever lost.
For this you’ll know
As you watch it grow
Love can never, ever be lost.

Wandering now
Where I’ve never been
Seeking now
Things I’ve won’t begin
Leaving now
Thoughts I shouldn’t have held so tight
Gone now
From the darkest night
Flowing now
On a path not so straight
Holding now
Promise as I go to the light.

We’re ‘In It’s Grip’ but not the weather. Stay safe and well ❤
Patrice’s Art & Poetry Blog

In it’s grip
It’s grip so tight
Hearing ice crack
As limbs fight to stay aloft
In the cruel, bleak night
Sparks shoot into the sky
Wires break, electricity dies.
We wait for help, to understand
A world changed, transformed
Across our little plot of land.
No cell phone works
No lights come on
Except from generators
Throttled up, throttled down.
While chainsaws roar cross the land
We do our best
To clean up, to understand.

Kindness, tenderness
All of the day
Hold it close
Don’t let it slip away.
Your heart will thank you
Your soul will say
Kindness, tenderness
All of the day
Hold it close
Don’t let it slip away.
~ Patrice
