Holding Close

June 1, 2020

Holding close
being in the beauty of it
all.

Losing nothing, saying less
cause we are part of the picture
overall.

With stories that are told
Snuggled in a soul
That will never, ever
Grow old.

Remember When

May 28, 2020

Jackal ~ Illustration by Patrice for Holt, Rinehart and Winston's reader, 'Flights Near And Far'

Remember when a laugh and smile
Were the only thing that made
The day’s itinerary song?

Remember when laughter
And carefree days lasted
All year long
The thought of winter didn’t
Come to mind
Didn’t come along.

Then there was when
A door opened up
And seriousness came along.

No smiles, no laughter
The whole day long
Winter winds blew
And the heart was frozen
In sadness
Crying was the only song.

Feeling Mixed

May 27, 2020

Parker2 Painting ~ Watercolour by Patrice

Feeling mixed
And
Feeling strange
Grapple with the concept
Never knowing how
The game is played.

Truthfully told
But not explained
I listen in awe of those
Who have been
And
Those who came

In The Distant Past

May 26, 2020

Arbua Chairs ~ Photo by Patrice

I have lived before
I have lived a life

In the distant past

Good or bad I had
A life before memories
Faded

In the distant past

They didn’t last
As new ones evolved
Different but built on
That life lived

In the distant past.

I Need To Know

May 25, 2020
Wicka ~ Watercolour by Patrice

I can’t keep you happy
I can’t let you go
No one can say the things
I need to know.

Bow my head in anguish
Raise it in joy
Move forward, telling
No one where or what
I need to know.

Somewhere Along The Way

Heron in the creek ~ Photo by Patrice

Somewhere along the way
My heart bled and sadness, sorrow
Washed away.

Somewhere along the way
I don’t know where or will I stay
Near or far, far away.

Somewhere along the way
My heart bled and washed
All thoughts of you away.

Somewhere
Somewhere along the way.

I Know You Couldn’t Possibly Hear Me

May 21, 2020

Cotten Tail ~ Photo by Patrice

I know you couldn’t possibly
Hear me
I know I’m in this alone
But still I feel the road
Isn’t travelled by me
All alone.

Presence, shadows hover
Near and above
Whispers in silence
Make my heart beat
As I pray for help
From those I have loved.

Now is not the time to cry
For I’ve been given
A chance
To move forward
move ahead.

Trusting in
What I know is there
Not seen
Just
Only in my head.

A Million Miles Away

May 20, 2020

Sun Flower ~ Photo by Patrice

A million miles away
The sun shines
No matter
The time of day.

My heart must bring
That sun from far
To my day, my walk
My way.

Holding close all
That’s good
All I need to make
It thru today.

From a million miles away
The sun shines
Shines on me
As I’m on my way.

I Have Been There

May 19, 2020

Sad Golden ~ Illustration by Patrice

I have been there
Seen everything
Held my breath
And
Tried not to scream.

Sadness mounts
Envelops me
Reason why
Evades
Not only me.

Maybe tomorrow
All will be ok
Til then
I’ll live thru
This troubling day.
