Working Hard

Working Hard ~ Photo by Patrice

Working hard
But seem stuck in debris
Struggling, attempting
Fighting
To get free.

Is help on the way
Or
Am I by myself
Can I pull it off
Sit back, relax
Harbouring no doubt?

This I hope, I do pray
But as of now
I’m stuck
In
Disaster’s stinking muck.

You Call Me ~ Watercolour by Patrice

You call me
I hear
my name

my heart smiles

For all is right
we’re together
again.

I Have Seen

June 27, 2025
I Have Seen ~ Photo by Patrice

I have seen
I haven’t been
the one  you want
this I know
I haven’t been.

Days go by
nights seem
to melt into nothingness
where nothing lives
nothings been.

Still you’re on my mind
and I have seen
there’s a chance
you’ve heard my voice
you’ve seen.

I’m here
I live, I love
I am
a human being.

Waiting To Tell

June 26, 2025
Waiting To Tell ~ Watercolour by Patrice

Here I am
waiting
for the right place
and
time
to tell all
you need to know
to
get through
just
another day

I won’t say
anything nasty
I won’t get in the fray
but
I will tell you
you need
to
be happy
even if
no one else
can see your smile
smile anyway.

Know

June 25, 2025
Know ~ Illustration by Patrice for B.C. Central Credit Union

You know it isn’t true
I know it is

You know you came here
I know I never did

You know the heart is true
I know it doesn’t believe any of this

I know you turn away
You know I hold with kindness

Together we know life
can seem so different

Yet we are here
as one

Side by side
thru all of this.

You Come To Me

June 24, 2025
You Come To Me ~ Photo by Patrice

You come to me
you tell me
things
I shouldn’t hear

I shut my eyes
not to see
what you’re
showing me

I close my mouth
not to taste
the bitterness
you bring
to me

I run as fast
as I can
putting safety
between
what you are
and
what I don’t want to be

No don’t come
please
anymore
to
visit me.

Hear The Bells

June 20, 2025

Hear The Bells ~ Photo by Patrice

Hear the bells
ring
their melancholy sound

Ringing, ringing

Throughout the valley
and
mountains all around

Sending messages, greetings
and words of sadness
so profound

Hear the bells
ringing

Ringing, ringing

Listen
listen to their sound.

Drip, Drop

June 19, 2025
Drip, Drop ~ Photo by Patrice

Rain leaks
into small spaces
it’s refreshing water
drips
drops

Onto parched lips
it’s taste
not
forgot

Growing strong
pouring down
windswept landscapes
feel
as if they’ve been
drowned

Then with a quiet stop
all you hear
is
drip
drop.

I Thought

June 18, 2025
I Thought ~ Illustration by Patrice for Holt, Rinehart and Winston's reader, 'Flights Near And Far'

The world’s mine
is
what
I thought

Then
I grew up
and
found

I thought

I’ll have to work
for it
my whole lifetime
through

And
never, never
stop.

I Didn’t Listen

June 17, 2025
I Didn't Listen ~ Photo by Patrice

You told me
I didn’t listen
I went on
my way

Why didn’t I listen
to
your kind words
soft and loud
telling
of things needed
to be
addressed
not allowed

But I didn’t listen
I didn’t say anything
to
stop the sadness
settle the anger
or
quell the foray

No, I did nothing
nothing like that
today.
