I know
I’ve been lost
in the wilderness
of
low self esteem
Climbing out
has been hard
rocks, crevasses
unholy shards
pierce my skin, my life
my thoughts
Still I climb
I push, pull and shove
to
a glorious world
full of
grace, courage
and
self-love.

No path is shown
No way is clear
Trudging onward
Holding on to thoughts
Of what may be
Near.
Maybe passed by
Shrugged off
Not
Realizing
Sometimes
Good things
Stand
Being there for me
To embrace
Hiding
In
Plain sight.

My heart aches
Seeing armies invade, taking land
Not theirs
Hearing cries, bombs
Flashing
Deadly lights
The world reels
As despots steal countries
Not theirs
They don’t care
If lives are lost, hearts broken
Life torn apart
Seek a way to stop
This annexation of what is
Not theirs
Please God
Please show me
Show me how today.

I watch the squirrels fight
edging out one another
for a place at the feeder
for
just another bite.
Sometimes
there’s a truce
Sometimes
a bitter fight
Sometimes
a lone squirrel
eats
til he feels suffice.
Birds keep their distance
stay out of the fight
they wait their turn
a time when
all others have had their fill
All’s quiet
No more anger
No more strife.

buried
deep in my heart
hidden
far, far away.
Will they give me
the secret
the key to my life
what needs to be said

forgiving?
